ABC Mentoring Program
Watch below to meet Joey from Whitman College and Carlos from Sharpstein Elementary, learn about their story and the impact of having Friends.
Enhancing Children’s Lives Through Mentoring
It all begins with a friendship. By becoming a mentor with Friends, you will make an everlasting impact on the children of the next generations.
Adult volunteers in the ABC School Mentoring Program visit once a week with their young friends, with all visits occurring on school grounds during lunchtime. Volunteers are rigorously screened and trained, then matched with kids with similar interests and hobbies.
Whether the time is spent playing tag or coloring together, these hour-long visits every week provide a consistent time and space the child can count on. This one-on-one time is a precious gift for children who often lack a positive adult role. Both parents and teachers find that children who participate in the ABC Program are more likely to be successful academically and socially.
Weekly Get-Togethers
One hour a week is all it takes, and it is all we ask! The mentors in our ABC Program meet with their mentees for one hour a week usually during their lunch or recess. The perfect time for some socializing!
Friends Activities
Friends looks to promote community events that are safe and allow for our Friends and families to meet up.
